Ravalli County Airport

Ravalli County Airport (6S5) is located in Hamilton, Montana. The airport was built in 1934 the field was constructed in a “T” shape, with a north-south runway a quarter mile long and 400 feet wide and an east-west runway a quarter mile long and 400 feet wide, running along what was called “the airport road” (now called Tammany Lane). Ravalli County Airport is one of the busiest GA airports in the state this is because it lies in the middle of some of the greatest recreation areas of Western Montana and Idaho. Ravalli County Airport is the gateway to the back country.

Hamilton is the seat of Ravalli County 48 miles south of Missoula between Victor and Darby on US 93 on the banks of the Bitterroot River near Bitterroot National Forest.

Located in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, Hamilton is Montana’s gateway to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and a number of other recreational and historic attractions.

The rounded, ancient peaks of the Sapphire Mountains create the east edge of this valley. The west edge is sharply defined by the Bitterroot Range, some of Montana’s rockiest and most jagged peaks. And through it all runs the Bitterroot River, lined with cottonwoods that turn the valley into a ribbon of gold in the fall. Set against this backdrop are towns ranging from richly historic to downright rustic and large working ranches, where horses are still used to herd stock. In the Bitterroot, the Old West meets the New West.
